In Short

ZooSmart is an interactive hybrid innovative educational math game that aims to provide primary school children with personalized learning through artificial intelligence. The game consists of a learning algorithm that determines the player’s flow state and help them stay in the flow of learning by adapting the difficulty level of the exercises to the player’s needs. Computer Vision (recognizing objects through a camera) allows the game to have a hybrid approach to educational games, having both a digital and physical part that players interact with.

The game is set in a Zoo where players are tasked with feeding all the animals. Together with the help of zookeeper Sam and Froggie (the zoo mascot), they complete feeding time and give the correct amount of food to the animals.

Looking Back

During this course I was able to explore both my passion for graphic design and gather more knowledge and skills on artificial intelligence and its applications. In this group project we were tasked with creating a solution to a social problem that would include AI and/or machine learning. We created a educational game which allowed us to not only explore and practice our PIV’s more but also venture outside our comfort zone and learn about the applications of AI/ML. I personally was in charge of creating the graphics and physical elements of the game. By doing taking on these responsibilities, I have learned how to incorporate storytelling into branding and vice versa, allowing me to be more confident to use this in future projects. I see the benefits of aligning graphics with storylines which helps reach the target audience even better, which is something I would like to continue doing in future work as well. Next to this, I have explored more technological avenues to realize ideas; mainly seeing how AI/ML can be used in a tangible and educational setting which I like to work in. I know that this application is not something I am interested in pursuing further but seeing the potential that it could have for society is definitely worth hanging onto as I continue to develop myself further as a designer.
